Cognizant to seal $2.7b buy

The magnitude of the deal easily qualifies among the top 10 biggest tech acquisitions across the globe so far

Chennai: Hoping to capitalise on shifts in healthcare information technology driven by regulatory reforms in the US, Nasdaq-listed IT firm Cognizant announced its decision to acquire US-based TriZetto Corporation in an all-cash $2.7 billion deal. The magnitude of the deal easily qualifies among the top 10 biggest tech acquisitions across the globe so far. In a statement, Cognizant said it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire TriZetto for $2.7 billion in cash, subject to customary adjustments. Privately held TriZetto, based in Englewood, is a leading provider of healthcare IT software and solutions. “Healthcare is undergoing structural shifts due to reform, cost pressure and shifting responsibilities between payers and providers. This creates a significant growth opportunity, which TriZetto will help us capture,” said Francisco D’Souza, chief executive officer of Cognizant.
