Police sources state that it is a case of suicide that followed a feud with his neighbours
The head and torso of a daily wage labourer lies on the railway track near Kikani School in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: In a case of suspected murder, the body of a 28-year-old man was found with its head and torso apart on the railway track near Kikani school. The man has been identified as a daily wage labourer from Kamarajapuram. While police sources state that it is a case of suicide that followed a feud with his neighbours, the man’s relatives claim that the youth was beaten up by a few men in the same locality and that it is murder.
The body was recovered by the people on Saturday morning and railway inspector Lawrence and a team of railway police personnel conducted an investigation to ascertain the identity of the corpse.
The body has been sent for post-mortem to the Coimbatore medical college and hospital and the report is awaited. Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased said A. Manikam was missing since last night and the family, which had been searching for him, was unable to find him.
“If he had committed suicide, placing his head on the track, there should have been lots of blood in and around the body. But there isn’t any. He was found on the track with his hands tied. There were bruises all over the body and his eyes were swollen,” said his 20-year-old friend Vadivel.
He said a group of men in the area had beaten up Manikam for allegedly peeping into the bathroom of a woman next door while she was bathing. “I have known him for 20 years and he would not have done that. The rival group beat him up, made him drink, and could have placed him on the track in a fully drunk state late on Friday night. He perhaps would not have been in a position to move from the track because he was completely drunk,” he added.
