Design solutions major Autodesk has unveiled Spark, 3D printing technology

Mumbai: Design solutions major Autodesk has unveiled Spark, its latest innovation for 3D printing technology and amplifying its adoption in industry. Spark is an open software platform for 3D printing, which aims to make the process more reliable, simpler and easier to control, it said.

The software was unveiled at the firm's annual design event, Autodesk University India and SAARC 2014, here on September 11-12. Autodesk Senior VP Worldwide Steve Blum said 3D printing has the potential to revolutionise manufacturing and bring powerful new ways to design and cater to businesses around the world. "Later this year Autodesk will release Spark and our own Autodesk 3D printer as a reference implementation of software," he added. Spark is open and freely licensable to hardware manufacturers.

The complete design of Autodesk 3D printer will be made publicly available to allow for further development and experimentation. The printer will be able to use a broad range of materials, made by Autodesk and others. "Spark is the manifestation of our vision to democratise design technology and make it accessible for every person who wants to design and make things," Autodesk (India and SAARC) Managing Director Pradeep Nair said.

3D printing has the potential to disrupt the market and usher in the new industrial revolution by empowering users to imagine, design and create, he added.
