Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president V M Sudheeran came in for sharp criticism at the youth congress state committee meeting here on Friday with a section of leaders accusing him of emulating Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan.
Sources said both A and I groups took turns to attack the state Congress chief alleging that he was trying to enhance his image by portraying other leaders in a bad light especially in connection with the abkari policy.
Some of the youth leaders pointed out that Sudheeran had allegedly tried to portray the top leadership including Chief Minister Oommen Chandy as supporters of the liquor lobby.
Later at a press conference, the youth congress state president Dean Kuriakose demanded gag orders against leaders of UDF constituents who were creating confusion on the abkari policy.
“The leadership of some of the UDF constituents had failed to rein in their leaders who were going out and making statements against the government in public. It is high time the leadership reined in such leaders,’’ he added.
The youth congress leader said though the Supreme Court verdict on the bar issue was not a set back to the government, the development was unfortunate.
However, he extended full support to the UDF government for implementing the phased prohibition policy.
