Hyderabad: A 38-year-old man stabbed his wife and his cousin to death suspecting an extramarital affair. The alleged killer, T. Rakesh, 38, stabbed his wife in their house at Bowenpally on Saturday morning, went to her lover’s house in Begumpet, and stabbed him with the same knife in front of his family. After the murders, Rakesh surrendered with the blood stained weapon.
While the wife T. Jayalakshmi alias Jayasree, was found dead in front of her house, her alleged lover, T. Naren, 31, was brought dead to a hospital in the city.
Police said that Rakesh started suspecting his cousin and his wife after he saw the phone call records of his wife a few months ago. On Saturday morning Rakesh quarrelled with Jayasree at their house located near the Pochamma temple at Tadbund. “He stabbed her on the chest. He took his bike and went to his cousin Naren’s house in Begumpet. He barged in and stabbed him on the chest thrice,” a cop said.
At Naren’s house, his brother and wife were present. However, they could not stop Rakesh. Local people rushed the victim to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Both Rakesh and Naren were drivers, while Jayasree used to work as a maid at a private hospital. The couple got married 10 years ago. Naren too was married.
Bowenpally police have booked a case for murder and have started interrogating the suspect.
Most murders due to love affairs, illicit sex:
Police records say that every day one person is being killed in the state due to extramarital affairs and love. Police said that extramarital relationships were the main reason for murders in undivided AP. Compared to other states, undivided AP topped the number of such murders with 385 cases in 2013, according to the National Crime Records Bureau. Around 15 per cent of the murders were carried out by spouses, sexual partners or parents of lovers.
Police officials say that a large number of murders have taken place in Hyderabad due to this issue. “There are two types of murders in extramarital affairs. The first one is the spouse killing his or her partner after finding out infidelity. The second type, is the spouse and his or her paramour killing the partner,” said an official. In some cases, lovers kill their partners when things turn messy.
Officers from city women police stations say that extramarital affairs is the main reason for quarrels between couples. “Many couples approach us. Most of the time we counsel them,” said a woman police officer.
In the double murder that took place at Begumpet and Bowenpally on Saturday, the alleged relationship started during family functions. Sources said that Rakesh had found his wife and cousin flirting. He also found evidence in her phone a few days before the murders took place.
