Widows from Vrindavan to visit West Bengal for Durga Puja

Dhak players, conch shells to mark the widows’ homecoming

Lucknow: About 50 widows from Vrindavan will visit Kolkata to celebrate Durga Puja.

In 2013, another batch of widows had been taken to Kolkata by NGO Sulabh International to celebrate the festival.

All the widows are in their 80s and had been abandoned by their families when their husbands died.

Sulabh founder Dr Bindeshwar Pathak said in a statement on Thursday that the widows would be accorded a warm welcome form the moment they arrive at the Howrah railway station.

“We have arranged for ‘dhak’ players and conch shells, apart from flowers, to mark the homecoming of these widows. They will be taken on a boat ride on Hooghly and will also visit 'Kumar Toli' to see the making of clay idols of Goddess Durga.”
