Kannur: Vikraman, the prime accused in the murder of RSS leader Elamthottathil Manoj, surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court, Kannur, at 11. 30 a.m. on Thursday in a dramatic manner.
The court later remanded him in police custody for 14 days.
Vikraman came on a bike and dashed into the court hall before policemen recognised him.
Later, the Special Investigation Team member DySP M.J. Sojan submitted a plea to the court demanding his custody for 14 days’ interrogation and evidence gathering.
He also submitted a report on the alleged role of Vikraman in the murder of Manoj at Ukhasmotta, Kathirur, on September 1.
Though Mr K. Viswan, counsel of the accused, contended that Vikraman was not a party to the murder, the court accepted the primary evidence submitted by the police, and judge K. Krishnakumar granted their plea for custody.
The SIT team then took Vikraman to the camp office at Thalassery for interrogation.
The police had issued a lookout notice for Vikraman the other day as all attempts to trace him had failed.
The police had also sent various squads to different parts of the country in search of him.
Known as the point man of CPM Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan, Patyam Kottiyodi Venattuveettil Vikraman, 42, was named by the police as prime suspect in the case soon after the murder.
His name first came to limelight when T.K. Rejeesh, accused in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder, named him as co-accused in the murder of RSS leader K.T. Jayakrishnan master during interrogation in 1999.
He was also interrogated in connection with the Jayakrishnan murder after the expose of Rejeesh.
Though police have been claiming that various teams were on his trail, Vikraman was safe in one of his party hideouts in the city.
What forced Vikraman to come out is the move by the state government to hand over the case to the CBI, it is learnt.
Vikraman was the private gunman of Jayarajan and had also led countless political attacks of the party, it is alleged.
