70 lakh in Telangana do not have Aadhaar cards

UIDAI claimed that undivided AP achieved 100% Aadhaar enrolment
Hyderabad: Interesting facts have come to light after the preliminary analysis of the Telangana Intensive Household Survey data. While UIDAI claimed that undivided AP was the first in the country to achieve 100 per cent Aadhaar enrolment, the Telangana State survey revealed that nearly 70 lakh people still do not have Aadhaar.

This puts the Telangana government in a spot as it is planning to link Aadhaar with each and every scheme and service henceforth offered by it. Also, there is a significant increase in the number of households owning four wheelers, two wheelers, electronic goods, houses among others when compared to Census 2011 data.

Enumerators had surveyed a total of 1.05 crore households in a single day on August 19 across the state. The computerisation of the data has been completed for 92.07 lakh households till Wednesday covering a population of 3.11 crore.

Of the 3.11 crore population, who enrolled their details in the survey, only 2.43 crore possess Aadhaar. Aadhaar was the prime document that was insisted upon by the enumerators at the time of survey. The enumerators were instructed not to insist on other documents like electricity bill, property tax bill, PAN card, IT returns etc but were asked to enter Aadhaar details compulsorily. They were asked to record specifically on each survey form whether they possess Aadhaar or not. It was found that nearly 70 lakh do not possess Aadhaar. This may increase further after scrutinising the data of over 10 lakh households.

The government will write to UIDAI to begin Aadhaar enrolment to cover this huge deficit, said Mr Raymond Peter, principal secretary, panchayat raj department and in charge of household survey.

The data analysis also revealed some more facts about the improvement in social and economic status of people and the various trends in the state.
