Women journalists held for protest

The agitators demanded Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao not to kill the media in Telangana
Hyderabad: More than 40 women journalists were arrested by city cops, while they were protesting in front of Chief Minister’s camp office at Punjagutta against banning of two Telugu TV channels TV9 and ABN Andhra Jyothi, in Telangana state.
The agitators deman-ded Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao not to kill the media in Telangana. The journalists appr-oached State Human Rights Commission, alleging that the police had manhandled them for partaking in a peaceful protest.
While a few TRS sources alleged that media houses are using their women employees to sensationalise the issue, the scribes denied the allegations saying that they are following up the ‘silent protest’ initiated by a woman TV anchor in Delhi on the same issue.
“The male journalists had protested last month and got arrested. They had conducted the rally from Basheerbagh to Secretariat on this issue. So, we decided to do it with women journos this time," said an agitator.
The agitators covered their face with black cloths and held placards saying “Don’t kill media in Telangana.” They were later released after their arrest.
