Hyderabad: The Begumpet Airport Authority, which was served a red notice by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board, coughed up Rs 1.32 crore. However, the airport authority, which has stopped commercial operations, approached the court seeking relaxation, citing its poor state due to the commissioning of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamsabad.

As per the Cantonment Board records, the Begumpet airport is the biggest property tax defaulter, with arrears to the tune of Rs 12.38 crore. The 700-acre airport is located in Survey No. 777, which falls within the jurisdiction of the SCB.

“After we served the red notice, the airport paid Rs 1.32 crore, which is the property tax for 2012-2013. For the rest of the arrears, the airport officials sought a stay in the court. However, the stay was denied. We will file a counter petitionsoon” said a senior SCB official.
