Bus driver killed, 15 injured in accident after bus catches fire in Hyderabad

Flames erupted in the bus, as a van appeared to have hit its diesel tank

Hyderabad: Driver of a state-run bus was killed and 15 passengers travelling in it sustained injuries after it collided with a van at Boinpally area on Tuesday.

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus was going to Armoor in Nizamabad district from Hyderabad when the van hit its front portion at Boinpally in the early hours, police said.

Flames erupted in the bus, as the van appeared to have hit its diesel tank, they said.

The driver of the bus could not come out and he lost his life due to the blaze. Many passengers managed to jump out of the bus.

Police personnel on patrolling duty saw the bus and reached out to the passengers. The driver, however, could not be taken out as he was stuck.

Police said 15 injured passengers were rushed to different hospitals. All the passengers are safe and some of them have been discharged.
