State association representatives agree to postpone AGM

Chennai: The ardent supporters of N. Srinivasan have paved the way for the Tamil Nadu strongman’s re-election as president of the BCCI for another three-year term. His grand ‘comeback’ is, however, subject to the conclusions of the Mudgal committee’s impending probe report. At Sunday’s gathering of the Board bigwigs here, the office bearers of the various state associations have agreed to postpone the annual general meeting thus facilitating Srinivasan, who is barred from functioning as the Board president by the Supreme Court until the probe is completed, to seek re-election.
The decision to postpone the AGM, however, will be announced only at the working committee meeting to be held on September 26, probably in Chennai.“The informal meeting in Chennai on Sunday was attended by 18 representatives from various state associations and Srinivasan was also present. The meeting gave an opportunity for Srinivasan to talk to Board officials in person. He was meeting some of them after a long time,” said a state association office bearer.
Sanjay Patel, who has to send out notice for the AGM 21 days prior to the meeting, said there seems to be no other option but to postpone it. “It was decided after taking all the possible technical and legal opinions. The working committee will discuss the matter further,” said Patel.It’s learnt that Rajeev Shukla (UPCA), Shivlal Yadav (Hyderabad CA) and Arindam Ganguly (Tripura) took part in the meeting through teleconference.
According to the BCCI constitution, it will be East Zone’s turn to propose and second a candidate for the presidency. Srinivasan has the support of all six East Zone members — CAB, Tripura, Jharkhand, Assam, Orissa, and National Cricket Club.
