Sharad Yadav asks Backward Classes to form party

Sharad Yadav urged the BCs to break caste barriers and unite as one
Hyderabad:Former Union minister Sharad Yadav who was the chief guest at the launch of the Institute for the Empowerment of Backward Classes here urged the BCs to break caste barriers and unite as one.
He also stressed on the need for the BCs to form a political party and graduate from takers to givers. Citing the example of the US which has dealt with the horror of racism successfully, the former minister said, “They have changed in the last 55 years from killing the one who stood for apartheid to banishing the differentiation. Today a Black is in the White House.
However, we have not seen any change in the evil of caste system since our independence.” The leader also remarked that the formation of Telan-gana or several other such divisions of the country will not serve the purpose of uplifting the marginalised.
“It will serve no purpose of dividing the country into pieces for uplifting the backward classes. The barriers of caste system which have been imposed on us need to be first challenged, discussed and broken. If we are fighting for reservations, it will go in vain.
We can given 100 percent reservations but it is of no purpose unless the ground realities of our country changes,” he said. Speaking about the value of a vote, he pointed out that the issue of selling of their vote has to change and instead of asking for favours, the BCs should form their own party and issue tickets instead of taking tickets.
Meanwhile, the Institute which is the first of its kind in the entire country is a private initiative of senior parliamentarian Devender Goud. The institute aims at research on the OBC as well as building leadership and solution capacity.
Especially the lack of information and database on the number of OBCs in the country which was pointed out by several other leaders is an area which the institute will work at. Recently as per a SC judgment, the Centre has decided to implement 27 per cent reservation of OBCs in education and employment.
Among others who were present were Chairman of Parliamentary Committee of Welfare of OBCs Bandaru Dattatreya, Chairman National Commission for Backward Classes V Eshawaraiah, Former Chairman of National Commission for Backward Classes Justice M.N. Rao.
