CM Chandrasekhar Rao promised IIM in Telangana State in next Budget

Hyderabad:Union HRD minister Smriti Irani has assured allocations for establishment of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Telangana in the next Union Budget. Ms Irani gave this assurance to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at their meeting in Delhi on Sunday.
Ms Irani pointed out that the Centre had announced setting up an IIM in AP in this year’s General Budget. If the IIM does come through for Telangana, it will join a select of six other states which have both the IIM and the prestigous IIT: West Bengal, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Prad-esh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan.
The convention till 2008 was that a state would be given either an IIT or an IIM. That convention was given a go-bye in 2008 by the UPA. When Ms Irani brought up the issue of constructing toilets and additional classrooms in government-run primary schools by August 2015, Mr Rao told her that it was already on the agenda of his government and was part of the TRS election manifesto.
Ms Irani offered to provide as much money as was needed for these constructions, provided the state government sends concrete proposals immediately. Mr Rao agreed to send the details.
In another development, Union environment minister Prakash Javadekar promised the Chief Minister that the ministry would release Rs 1,100 crore, the state’s share of the Compe-nsatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority, for taking up afforestation programmes.
Mr Rao also sought for early forest clearances for Pranahita-Chevella project and new mines being explored by the Singareni Collieries.
