Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under ISI control: Intelligence Bureau

Army, Pakistan Prime Minister strike deal
New Delhi: Keeping a close watch on the developments in Pakistan, Indian intelligence agencies, particularly the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), are not ruling out the possibility of a “secret deal” being struck between Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief Gen. Raheel Sharif.
Sources said that there were indications that Mr Sharif has succumbed to pressure from the Pakistani Army and has decided to let it have the final say on security-related issues. An intelligence official went to the extent of describing Mr Sharif, who had emerged as a powerful Prime Minister, in the process of being “reduced to a puppet in the hands of the Pakistani Army and the ISI”.
Though the recent “mango diplomacy” by Mr Sharif to his Indian counterpart, Mr Narendra Modi, was being viewed as the former’s attempts to mend ties, intelligence officials feel that with the Army and the ISI in the “mood to dictate terms, things might not span out smoothly”.
The Economist, in its latest edition, has also indicated troubled ties between Mr Sharif and the Pak Army. “The generals certainly have motives to weaken or even destroy Mr Sharif, who has a big parliamentary majority. The Prime Minister has made no secret of his desire to impose civilian control over the Army,” the report read.
