Madras High court dismisses petition of Granite companies on land lease

Anooradha Granites and others, challenging the showcause notices issued to them
Chennai: The Madras high court on Thursday dismissed a batch of petitions from M/s PRP Granites and 15 others, challenging the showcause notices issued by the state government asking why the lease deeds granted to them should not be declared as lapsed since they had failed to undertake mining operations for two years after the execution of the deeds.
Justice D. Hariparanthaman dismissed another batch of 60 petitions from M/s Anooradha Granites and others, challenging the showcause notices issued to them by the Madurai district collector, asking why action should not be taken against them for their alleged involvement in illegal transport of granite from the lease-hold area, illicit quarrying and transportation in non-lease hold areas, thereby causing huge losses to the exchequer.
Dismissing the petitions of PRP Granites and others, the judge said, “In my view, the petitioners failed to establish that the show-cause notices were issued without jurisdiction or the state government already arrived at a definite conclusion on the guilt on the part of the petitioners. Hence, I have no hesitation to hold that the petitions are not maintainable and the petitions are liable to be dismissed”.
