Nellore: The burden on civil supplies department because of bogus ration cards is to the extent of Rs 70 lakh per month in SPSR Nellore district. According to information, there is large number of bogus cards with the fair price shop dealers. In a bid to eliminate the bogus cards, administration has taken up a drive for seeding of ration cards with Aadhar cards in the recent past. According to joint collector G. Rekha Rani, 91 per cent of the population in the district has enrolled their names for Aadhar and seeding with ration card has been completed for 74 per cent of the ration card holders till now.
The administration is deputing two officials for each ration shop in the rural areas of the district on September 5 and 6 and urban areas on September 7, 8 and 9 to verify the Aadhar cards and ration cards before delivering the commodities. The ration card holders must produce either Aadhar card or enrolment receipt to obtain the ration on the specific dates. If not enrolled yet, they can enrol and submit the receipt to take the commodities later. The joint collector advised the people to enrol their names for Aadhar cards before September 10 to avail the ration for this month. District civil supplies officer Shantakumari was present with the JC among others.
