Mixed internet reactions to Shweta Basu's brush with prostitution

Mumbai: After Actress Shweta Basu Prasad was caught in a high profile prostitution racket on Sunday, the internet has been buzzing with their analysis on the situation. Many questioned why the identity of the actress wasn’t protected and the businessmen involved were not exposed.

In a statement to the police, the actress revealed she was broke, and had no other option to earn a living. This made many social media-users critical of the sudden drastic step she took to support her family.

And then there were some readers on the website that were upset about the news, and would have never imagined their favourite child star’s career to take such an ugly turn. But there were a few who supported the actress’ decision, and knew that the actress had her own personal reasons for making this choice.

This situation has also got people questioning why prostitution is illegal in the country. They feel prostitution in India should be legalised, to avoid cases of rape and human trafficking.

Shweta has now been sent to a rescue home, where she will be kept for three months. Her agent Balu, a Tollywood assistant director has been arrested.
