September 17: Amit Shah’s date with state

BJP president to visit Gulbarga village, lay stone for Patel statue
Bengaluru: Leaders of the state unit of BJP on Monday decided to invite party president Amit Shah to unveil the foundation stone for a statue of Vallabhai Patel on September 17, a day observed as “Hyderabad Liberation Day,” on the leader’s maiden visit to Karnataka.
On that day, Mr. Shah would visit Gorantla village near Gulbarga to unveil the foundation stone for the statue in the presence of senior leaders of the party. Besides, another foundation stone for erecting the statue of a martyr of Hyderabad liberation would also be unveiled,
The core committee also discussed modalities for induction of leaders keen to join the BJP. “There are many leaders belonging to Congress and Janata Dal (S) who are keen to join the party. Any one who would like to join can come without conditions,” Mr. Jagadish Shettar, former chief minister and one of the senior members of the core committee, told Deccan Chronicle.
On the issue of denotification of land in Arkavathy Layouyt, Mr. Shettar said the committee decided to wait for submission of report by a committee headed by former minister Suresh Kumar, which was constituted to dig out documents pertaining to denotification by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The other decision of the core committee was to visit flood hit areas. A team comprising state unit president Pralhad Joshi and Mr Shettar would visit Raichur and Yadgir districts, while the B.S. Yeddyurappa-led team would tour Gulbarga and Bijapur districts. The core committee also decided to meet once in 15 days. "We discussed at length how to strengthen the party. We do not mind taking leaders from other parties in places where we do not have presence. But, they should join without any conditions," Mr Shettar added.
