Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to speed up all pending city projects

The Municipal Corporation has four weeks to complete the pending projects

Hyderabad: Will Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation display 121.5 km of damaged roads, broken footpaths, stolen studs and no lane markings during the 11th International World Congress meet in the first week of October. Out of the Rs 14 crore sanctioned for the meet, close to 40 per cent of the work has been executed. The Municipal Corporation has four weeks to complete the pending projects. While recarpeting, and fixing footpaths can only be taken up once monsoon is over, decorative lighting is yet to see the light of day.

The GHMC has identified 22 roads measuring 12.5 km based on the venue, tourism sites, heritage structures and hotels. Of this, 60.43 km falls under the R&B department, 27.5 km to the National Highway Authority and 33.57 km to GHMC. Apart from this a small stretch at Necklace Road belongs to the HMDA. While the R&B department has approached the government for necessary release of budget to take up these works, GHMC has already sanctioned an amount of Rs 1310.56 lakh, of which 60 per cent needs to be completed before October 1st week. While for BT roads repairs, Rs 461.90 lakh was sanctioned, Rs 510.10 lakh was set aside for footpath and Rs 334.60 lakh for lane marking.

“All the above works are planned to be completed though the monsoons are active; efforts will be made to complete the works during dry spells and we will try to complete by the end of September,” said a senior GHMC official. The government has decided to waive of the registration fee for both international and national delegates to facilitate large participants in the event.
The World Congress meet, to held in the first week of October, is expected to be attended by about 1,000 foreign delegates from 60 countries around across the World.
