A prototype of a micro-aerial vehicle brought appreciation from all

Hyderabad:The recently concluded August Fest saw the brightest of ideas by the smartest of students. And the best amongst them was the prototype of a spherical micro-aerial vehicle by Suma Amujuri, Suresh R. and Abhishek A.
Pursuing a course on technical entrepreneurship at ISB along with their third year of B.Tech at MLRIT, (Marri Laxman Reddy Institute of Technology and Management) Suma, Suresh and Abhishek’s idea of creating a spherical micro-aerial vehicle for defence purposes bagged the first place at the August Fest among 75 ideas from all engineering colleges in the city.
And the students are more than just excited. “We got an invitation for the August Fest and at the time, we were working on the idea of having a spherical vehicle that could be used for defence purposes with objectives like hovering and rolling. But the prototype that we presented at the August Fest is more of a flying machine with transmitters and motors,” says Suma. She adds, “Our prototype was unveiled at the closing ceremony and it was said that we made it in 48 hours. But it’s not that easy. It actually took us 15 days to put this together.”
And the best thing for the young students is that they helped put their college in the spotlight at the August Fest. “It was an amazing feeling as everyone was appreciating our work and our college at the event,” Suma says.
But their idea still has a long way to go. “We wanted to create a defence instrument with technology that makes it hover and roll which is currently not possible for any aerial vehicle. We are now going to start an internship at the prototype centre at ESCI to develop this further into what our idea initially was,” she adds.
