Hyderabad: The battle lines are drawn. The elections to the Hyderabad Cricket Association will be held on Sunday, September 7. Going by the list of nominations released by the returning officer on Sunday, incumbent president G. Vinod will take on former Test cricketer and president Arshyad Ayub for the top post while joint-secretary S. Venkateswaran is looking to become the secretary against K. John Manoj.
BCCI interim president N. Shivlal Yadav, a sitting HCA vice-president, isn’t in the running the first time since 1990 the former India off-spinner isn’t conesting the polls. Shivlal, who is likely to retain his post till the BCCI AGM towards the end of this month, has served as an Executive Committee member, joint secretary, secretary and the vice president in the HCA. M.V. Sridhar, the current secretary who had taken a step back from active duty when he was appointed the BCCI General Manager (cricket operations), has climbed down a step and will be fighting for one of the five vice-president posts. In the vice-presidential fray are sitting vice-presidents E. Venkatram Reddy and P. Yadagiri, who are competing for opposing factions.
Incumbent joint secretary Purshotham Agarwal will seek to retain his post alongside R. Vijayanand who had tied with Purshotham and subsequently lost in the 2012 polls against current EC members Gerard Carr and T. Basava Raju.
Former Indian football captain Victor Amalraj, who is employed with the Food Corporation of India, is among the 25 fighting it out for one of the 12 posts on the EC. A notable absentee in the elections is former Hyderabad cricketer Vanka Pratap, who hasn’t filed his nomination to retain his post on the EC.
