I quit Congress as I was disturbed by party’s double standards, says Kanakaiah

Hyderabad: Koram Kanakaiah, the Congress MLA elected from Yellendu Assembly in Khammam district, on Sunday announced his resignation from the Congress to join the TRS on Monday. He is the second legislator to do so after G. Vittal Reddy, MLA from Mudhole in Adilabad district. The Congress has 21 Assembly seats in the 2014 general elections and it is now short of two of its elected members.
Speaking to this newspaper from Yellendu, Mr Kanakaiah said, “Since 1978 only the CPIML and the CPI have won this seat. The Congress won for the first time in the recent elections. There was never any development scheme in all these 35 years. I have promised several development schemes for the backward Yellendu constituency. People believed and voted for us but they also need development which was not possible if I continued to be in that party. So I decided to quit the Congress and join the TRS so that at least I will get funds for constituency development.
Is it a sin to change sides if it is for the development and welfare of the people? Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao promised to convert the state into Golden Telangana, so I have decided to join the ruling party to serve the people better.”Mr Kanakaiah said he is also disturbed the way in which the Congress invited 16 leaders from his constituency for the recently held workshop at Ibrahimpatnam.
“These 16 leaders were expelled by the party alleging anti-party activities, and the same people were invited to a party workshop to strengthen the Congress. This means they have no scruples. It is one of the other reasons for switching over to the TRS,” Mr Kanakaiah said.
