Hyderabad: A police sniffer dog caught a murderer just a few hours after he killed a 35-year-old woman at Sumithranagar in Kukatpally on Sunday.
The woman who has not yet been identified was strangled with a gear wire and her body was abandoned at the bus stop. The dog followed the scent and found the culprit in a colony near the spot. The alleged killer, Gurram Raju, 24, is a resident of Jayaramnagar in Quthbullapur and is a native of Kurnool district. The police is interrogating him to know the reason for the murder.
Police said that at around 10 am, a local tea vendor named Mallesh, who runs a shop at the Aakar Asha Hospital in Sumithranagar was told by customers about a woman found dead at a nearby bus stand. He alerted the cops. The body had a cut on the neck and on the forehead.
The clues team and dog squad rushed to the spot. A dog named Rocky (a Labrador) belonging to the CID dog squad was brought to the scene.
“It ran towards the KPHB bus stand where the culprit was present and caught him. Our SI and constable who were accompanying the dog took him into custody. He is being interrogated,” said inspector Chandrakanth. Cops said it was a rare case and appreciated Rocky’s skill. “The killer was traced within hours. This incident has once again proved the importance of the dog squad and clues teams in detecting crime. We will reward the dog,” said Mr Chandrakanth.
