Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa launches highways schemes

CM dedicated a 27 km stretch of the outer ring road connecting Mannivakkam and Nemilichery
Chennai: Chief minister Jayalalithaa launched a series of initiatives in the highways and education sectors. The Chief Minister dedicated a 27 km stretch of the outer ring road connecting Mannivakkam and Nemilichery, laid at a cost of Rs 1,081.40 crore. Dedicating the initiative through video conferencing from the secretariat, she also laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the road, estimated at Rs 1,075 crore for 30.50 km.
The second phase will connect Nemlichiery to Minjur, an official release said. The outer ring road was proposed as a decongestion measure, to enable Chennai-bound heavy vehicles, especially container lorries, coming from the southern and western parts of the state, enter the city, thus avoiding suburban routes. Jayalalithaa also inaugurated various other facilities implemented by the highways and minor ports department, including small bridges at a cost of Rs 2,286.91 crore across the state, the release added. She also inaugurated school buildings in different parts of the state constructed at a cost of Rs 103 crore.
