Chennai:An ardent devotee of Lord Ganesh, Aishwarya Dhanush celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi with lots of fervour and zeal. Seated near the large idol of the elephant God at her home, Aishwarya says, “Ganesha is the God of new beginnings and we invoke his blessings before starting anything new.
Festivals are an important occasion for us, because we all make it a point to meet up and greet each other. I personally make all Ganesha’s favourite sweets like Kozhukattai and Pal Payasam at home.”
Dhanush has said he would not act in any film directed by you. Why?
He was kind enough to accommodate dates for me once, at a time when he was very busy. I am very happy that he is producing my film. It reflects his confidence in my work, which speaks volumes about my credibility as a filmmaker.
Do you discuss work with Soundarya, since you both are directors?
Whenever one sees a director at work, anyone would hesitate to disturb him or her on the sets. We are exactly like that. I didn’t go to her sets and she hasn’t come to mine. It’s professional respect for each other and we know where we stand.
What motivates you?
Undoubtedly it is Dhanush. He was the one who gave me the confidence that I would definitely make it as a director. My mother’s role is as important as Dhanush’s. I leave my kids with her and go for my shoots. I can be rest assured that they will be taken care of. My family has not just been supportive, but Appa is highly protective of us as well.
Do women directors in K’town get their due respect?
If you had asked me ten years back, I would have said no. These days, actors are open to good scripts irrespective of the gender. It was the script of VRV that brought Gautham Karthik on board. He would not risk his career if he wasn’t confident about the film. The comfort level we offer is very important.
How do you go about choosing a script?
I ask a few people close to me, in particular, Dhanush. However, as every director has his/her own perception, I will take the final call.
Vai Raja Vai is a term used in gambling especially while playing cards. Why this title?
I wanted to keep people guessing. I was particular that like my first film’s intriguing title 3, this should also be catchy. In a way it is directly connected with the story, as it’s about a guy ‘playing’. Like Gautham, the female lead Priya Anand will also be there throughout. The idea of shooting on a cruise ship came up when we wanted everything in one location. Time-wise and budget-wise, it worked out well for us.
