Lucknow: BJP MLA Sangeet Som, an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, has been given “Z” category security cover by the MHA, which claims that the threats to his life justify top-level security.
The UP government said that Mr Som had been given “Y” level cover up-on a court order based on his complaint that a rival candidate had threatened him, his security was upgraded by the Centre.
The MHA justified the decision, saying the IB report cited high threat perception to him and possible law and order repurcussions in the state if he was attacked.
