All woman Metro station planned

Skywalks to connect Metro stations to crossroads, schools in city

Hyderabad: An all woman Metro station is being planned at Madhuranagar by the Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities. At this station, the bus bay and autorickshaw bay will be operated by women. The commercial establishments and the administration of the station will be monitored by women. The station is being designed and planned according to the needs of women, said managing director of Hyderabad Metro Rail N.V.S. Reddy.

Apart from this, Rythu Bazaars will be set up outside Metro stations at Bharatnagar and old Gandhi Hospital. The Gandhi Hospital Rythu Bazaar will be connected to the Monda Market at Secunderabad. Moreover, 200 sky-walks are being planned across the city. According to sources, officials are planning the skywalks in such a way that commuters can use them to access the nearest Metro station from important crossroads.

Mr Reddy added, “When there is a school on the Metro stretch, the station and skywalk can be connected to the school so that the children can directly walk to their school from the Metro station. The issues of safety will also be taken care of.” The skywalk model has been taken from South East Asian countries where it has shown good participation and acceptance from the citizens. Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma said, “The designs are in tune with the local ethos and aesthetics of the city. These facilities are of international standard and will benefit the citizens.”

Currently, seven trains have arrived from Korea and test runs will be carried out for six months before the final certification process. The change in the alignment near Assembly and Sultan Bazaar is still being studied and a report will be submitted to the government within a month. It will cost the Metro project an additional '400 crore. The compensation plan will be worked out accordingly for concessionaire L&T.
