Hyderabad:This summer saw fashionistas flaunting their midriff in trendy crop tops. Now it’s time to let the shoulder enjoy the spotlight as off-shoulder fashion makes a haute statement.
Baring the shoulders translates as both formal chic and relaxed casual, feels designer Ujjawal Dubey. He says, “An off-shoulder long dress in fluid fabric is perfect for an evening look. Or you can settle for a quirky off-shoulder top in khadi with a pair of jeans for your daytime outing. Adding volume to the neckline of an off-shoulder top lends it more drama. Team it with a pair of shorts and look effortlessly stylish. Personally, I feel the monochrome look in an off-shoulder ensemble is the headturner of the moment.”
For designer Purvi Doshi, off-shoulders definitely stand out even in a fashionably upscale crowd. “They are eye-catching with minimal skin show. For this trend, my choice would be something flowy in a nude tone.” She is happy introducing the peplum in the scene. She points out, “A peplum off-shoulder top can be paired with a knee-length pencil skirt or a palazzo. Both look smart and chic. Those who are top heavy can try a ruffled dress that ends just a little below the knee. If you are heavier around the waist, opt for a loose fit or A-line off-shoulder top as it gives the illusion of a slim physique. A word of caution: Don’t let the neck plunge too deep. That would take things too far.”
Highlighting the most sensual aspect of this trend, designer Gavin Miguel says, “It’s sensual without going overboard. Take a sheer top in ivory shade or a midi dress in midnight blue with subtle embellishments, both the styles click well. Nothing can beat the charm of a classic knee-length, off-shoulder black frock. This isn’t a newly arrived fashion statement, but this time it has arrived with innovations.”
He adds, “Legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta recently displayed a retrospective collection of his creations in the last 50 years, and some of the best works included chic off-shoulder gowns. This particular neckline makes up the majority in Naeem Khan’s latest bridal line as well. It ruled in the past decade and it’s still going strong.”
