Violence at Assam-Nagaland border worsens, 2 killed in fresh clashes

Centre not taking up conflict seriously, says Assam CM
Guwahati: The Centre on Wednesday dismissed as “bas-eless” Assam Chief Min-ister Tarun Gogoi’s allegation that CRPF was not intervening in the Assam-Nagaland border dispute, saying the central forces are at the disposal of the state.
Earlier in the day Mr Gogoi said, “We are not dragging feet from our responsibility but law and order of the disputed area was completely under the control of the central government.”
He clarified that his government was ready extend all necessary constructive support to re-solve the decades old conflict situation along Assam-Nagaland border, which is dragging since 1971.

However Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju said, “As far as the border dispute is concerned both the governments should sit and talk. We can only assist. But it is not correct to blame CRPF and us. Law and order is their subject. We send central forces but state government regulates them,” he said on the sidelines of an event here. The allegations of the CM are baseless,” he said.
Mr Gogoi said that his government was also exploring to resolve the border dispute through people to people contacts instead of waiting for judicial settlement hanging for so many years before the apex court.
