AP budget generous to ports, Rs 652 crore alloted for Kakinada port

Hyderabad:The state government has allocated Rs 73 crore in the Budget for development of seaports and airports in AP including for upgradation and land acquisition. The government has also allotted Rs 5 crore for 2014-15 for acquisition of additional land for Gannavaram airport and Rs 1 crore for the development of the new airport at Visakhapatnam.
Airport Authority of India has prepared a master plan and projected additional land requirement for expansion. AP Aviation Corporation Limited has been allotted Rs 5 crore in view of government plans for a chartered flight or helicopter for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
An amount of Rs 6.58 crore has also been provided in the budget for expansion of the Tirupati International Airport. AAI has been handed over the advance possession of 293 acre of land located in Renigunta mandal.
Another Rs 6 crore has been provided for upgradation of non-metro airports at Kadapa and Ongole and Rs 1 crore for development of the Rajahmundry airport. Most of the projects will be implemented through PPP mode.
Finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said that the state would support AAI for expansion of Kadapa, Rajahmundry, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam airports and added that a greenfield airport was being envisaged between Vijayawada and Kakinada.
He said the Centre had been requested for assistance for no-frills airports at Kuppam, Nellore and Srikakulam. The state government has also allotted Rs 8.42 crore in the Budget for creation of various infrastructure facilities at Kakinada seaport, Gangavaram seaport, Krishnapatnam seaport and Machilipatnam seaport.
Giving preference to Kakinada port, an amount of Rs 652 crore has been provided in the Budget for creation of infrastructure while Rs 1.62 crore has been allotted to the Gannavaram port. Finance minister said that there was a proposal for establishment of a second major port in the state and another commercial port at Kakinada in the private sector.
“The seaports in the state handled a record cargo of 59 million tons and earned a revenue of Rs 144 crore during 2013-14. It is estimated to earn Rs 153 crore by handling 65 million tons of cargo in 2014-15,” he said.
Budget gives fillip to tourism:
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has allocated Rs 113 crore in the Budget, in addition to numerous tourism development schemes. Finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said an international convention centre, at the cost of Rs 117 crore, and an Indian Culinary Institute, at a cost of Rs 50 crore would be set up in Tirupati in the current financial year.
Vision 2029 envisages happiness index for Andhra Pradesh:
AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has decided to bring ‘Vision 2029’ in place of ‘Vision 2020’. AP finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said that the government has decided to redraft the ‘Vision 2020’ document to frame ‘Vision 2029’.
It will set standards for a new development paradigm in sync with the changed circumstances to place the state among the three best performing states in the country by 2022, marking India’s completion of 75 years.
He said the challenges are many, but the TD government is determined to overcome all. The principal endeavour of the government will therefore be to make Andhra Pradesh develop as a Swarnandhra Pradesh state measured in terms of citizen life satisfaction and Happiness Index by 2029.
Budget for 12 smart cities in Andhra Pradesh:
Rapid and planned urbanisation is necessary for economic development. To that end, the Andhra Pradesh government has earmarked Rs 3,134 crore for urban development in its Budget.
Keeping in mind the Centre’s scheme of developing 100 smart cities, Andhra Pradesh finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu on Wednesday said 12 such cities, having proper infrastructure, basic amenities and technology-enabled, would be developed under the scheme in the state.
