Karan Johar seeks rights to Ram Lakhan

The filmmaker is all set to remake Ram Lakhan

Mumbai: We all remember Subhash Ghai’s superhit film Ram Lakhan, a comedy drama from the ’90s that starred Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor. Now we hear that none other than Karan Johar has expressed an interest to remake the hit. And he has also met the showman Ghai to discuss the remake rights.

A source told this paper, “Karan Johar is very keen to remake that film. The film has all kinds of emotions that one associates with his brand of filmmaking. He has met him and has discussed the project at length. He has grown up watching such films and today, he really wants to go back and recreate on screen the bond between two brothers.”

The source continues, “The price is still under negotiation but sooner or later it will go through as Ghai has faith in Karan and his sensibilities. He will not make an RGV Ki Aag out of a classic.”

Another of Subhash’s classics, Hero is already in the making under Salman Khan’s banner. It will be the launch vehicle of Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty. We tried to get in touch with the showman regarding the progress on KJo’s remake, but he chose not to comment.

Earlier today the makers confirmed the news, 'Singham Returns' director Rohit Shetty will be directing the '90s remake. Sources from the industry say Subhash Ghai sold the rights of his superhit film for Rs 5 crore, and he will be associated with the new remake project as well.
