Metro corridor puts kids at risk

Women and Child Welfare Department in Yousufguda is shifted but Shishu Vihar is yet to be shifted
Hyderabad: The Ameerpet Metro corridor is proving to be a major risk for the government run Shishu Vihar, which houses more than 110 kids. The Women and Child Welfare Department in Yousufguda was shifted to facilitate the corridor, but this Shishu Vihar is yet to be shifted. Activists say that building of the home is at risk. “There are about 102 children in the Shishu Vihar premises. The construction of metro rail has started and they have shifted the women and child welfare office to Ameerpet.
But the government did not take any action regarding the children at the Home. It is more dangerous for them than the elders to stay at a place where construction is taking place. The children are very small and aged between 0-6 years. They are prone to dust allergies. They must be relocated soon,” said Anuradha Rao, president, AP Balala Hakkula Sangham.
Whereas Sunil Kumar, Commissioner of the women and child welfare department said, “We still have been discussing over this and are yet to come to a consensus. We have had a series of meetings even over the weekend. In a couple of days, some action will be taken.”
Mr Sunil Sharma, Commissioner, Departm-ent of Women and Child welfare said that, “The Shishu Vihar building is completely being taken over for the Metro construction and that space is being used to build the station platform. We will systematically shift all the kids to another building within the premises. The Metro authorities said they would build one more Shishu Vihar just behind this place.”
