Centre’s advertisements to feature in social media

New strategy has been formulated after the success of social media realised in LS polls

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government has decided to completely change its media outreach policy for the government adve-rtisement and public awareness campaigns.

For the first time ever social media is expected to be treated at par with the print and electronic media. Sources stated that the Union information and Broadcasting ministry has been told to prepare social media content for all future government campaigns.

The new strategy has been formulated after the success of the social media being realised in the recently concluded LS polls. The Centre is also understood to be in the process of finalising a national email policy for official communications. The committee of secretaries had met last month for this purpose.

The initiative to strengthen social media interface, the New Media Cell (NMC), may see several changes.

However, the expansion of initiatives on social media haven’t gone down well in several quarters as former BJP leader and ideologue K.N. Govindacharya has recently petitioned the Delhi High Court against it. He has accused the government of breaking the law by its official use of Twitter and Facebook accounts, which have foreign servers.
