Blogger comes to aid of citizens

Site is ranked at 146 on list of 3,500 bloggers in city
Chennai:When Deepak Raghuraman (25) from Triplicane received his monthly electricity bill last year, like most other TANGEDCO consumers, he too could not figure out why he was charged an exorbitant account.
“I went to various websites to understand the content. After spending a lot of time online, I could finally decipher it. This made me wonder why people should face a problem in small issues like this,” says Deepak.
A few days later, Deepak started his blog ‘Namma area’. But the response was just lukewarm for his first few posts. He decided to open a full-fledged public information blog after one of his posts on the monthly milk card tariffs received good response.
He says, “My dad has been very supportive of the idea and he suggested I put information on tariffs of Aavin milk cards. The post was read by many people and that made me go further.”
Since then, there has been no looking back. Working at an ad agency in the city, he writes the blog on weekends and has received more than three lakh views. Deepak’s website is ranked at 146 on list of 3500 bloggers in the city on Indiblogger website.
Deepak's blog includes comparative tariffs of major call taxi firms and autos and a distance and time calculator that can be used by visitors to know which mode of transport would be cheaper. In addition, the blog contains information on how to get a bus pass, where nearest ATMs are and street shopping destinations. “In a blog, I try to keep the information crisp and reader friendly. Moving on, I plan to put information on getting birth and death certificates in the blog,” says Deepak.
