Blacksmith unveils 3D replicator

3D printing is not a new subject. With a plethora of techies developing their own home-brewed machines to top companies creating 3D printers, the gadgets are available around the globe. Printing in 3D, all from small objects, to large buildings, have already been demonstrated.

Blacksmith Group, a Singapore-based company, has unveiled a desktop version of an all-in-one 3D printing solution, which can scan, print and copy objects using a single machine.

The machine, Blacksmith Genesis, is as big as a large desktop coffee machine, with a cabin measuring around 9-inches in diameter and 6-inches in height.

The Genesis has a built-in 3D camera, which can scan a 6-inch model placed inside the chamber. The scanning takes around 6 minutes to complete, which is then analysed by the internal processor and then finalised for the print procedure.

The 3D cameras also help to be remotely monitored. You can monitor the 3D printing from your smartphone to have a check on the process when you are far away too. Using the smartphone, you can also disable the printer so that an unauthorised printing cannot take place.

The Genesis is not yet Wi-Fi-enabled, but Blacksmith Groups I considering it in its future iterations. At present it is a crowd-funding project and is not available as a retail product.

The Genesis could take a while to see the day of light, but once it does, you could have a 3D replicator right on your desktop.
