Conditional bail granted to Gali Janardhan Reddy in illegal mining case

The accused will continue to stay in prison as he needs to secure bail in six more cases

Bellary/Bengaluru: Beleaguered mining baron and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy was granted conditional bail by a CBI special court in Bengaluru on Wednesday but Reddy will continue to stay in prison as he needs to secure bail in six more cases.

The special court granted bail to Reddy, provided he gives a bond of Rs 10 lakh and two person’s surety in the illegal mining case involving Associated Mining Company (AMC) in Sandur taluk of Bellary district.

Reddy is accused number one in the case in which AMC is accused of causing a loss of Rs 450 crore to the exchequer.

The CBI had arrested him on September 5, 2011, in connection with the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) case.

He is the first accused in the OMC case too and also accused in five charge-sheets filed in connection with the Belekeri port iron ore export scam.

Apart from these cases, the Economic Offences Wing of the CBI has registered 22 more FIRs in the Belekeri scam on Reddy’s association with fraudulent ore export companies.

Besides, the Enforcement Directorate has registered cases against Reddy for alleged violation of FEMA and FERA norms.

Reddy is presently admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru after he complained of back pain.

According to sources, he is undergoing physiotherapy for the problem.
