Bengaluru rape case: It’s difficult for our child, us to go through this, say parents

Victims parents thanked police and media for their support and understanding
Bengaluru: Though for the City police investigation in the Vigyor child abuse case is over with the arrest of the two accused, Lalgiri and Waseem Pasha, for the victim and her parents the trauma is unending and acute.
“We are taking one day a time, but it’s very difficult for us to have a normal life. We neither wish to blame anyone nor expect sympathy, but we demand that our educational institutions are safe, accountable and transparent. Children need to be protected against abuse and violence,” the mother of six-and-a-half-year-old victim told this newspaper.
“We are thankful to police and media for their support and understand that the police have been under tremendous pressure to investigate the case and expose the culprits, but to tell you the truth, the pressure on the police translated into pressure on the child to identify her predators and it was very difficult for her and doubly more for us to watch her go through it all. A child is innocent and far removed from crude reality,” said the mother.
The couple is thankful to the city police and the team, which is investigating the case, especially the Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Abhishek Goyal, who is supervising the investigation. “We had requested them to not approach our daughter directly and to come home in civil dress. They have been very sensitive and empathetic. We understand that there are legal procedures, which need to be followed like the medical and forensic examination, going to the police station to lodge a police complaint and then identifying the accused,” said the distraught mother.
“For us it’s like dealing with a double-edged sword. Every morning, when we read the newspapers it brings back the trauma and I feel so helpless. It’s very difficult to believe that schools are safe and that, when we leave our children in the care of the school they are loved, respected and well looked after. This should not happen to any child. Can we be socially and morally responsible people?” she asked.
