Appointments of contract staff put on hold in Telangana

OU students complained that the university had hurriedly issued appointment orders

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has directed officials not to issue fresh appointment orders for contract staff in any department.

The Telangana government is already under fire, from Osmania University students, for its decision to regularise existing contract staff.

The government has received complaints from students and various other quarters that some departments are hurriedly making fresh appointments of contract staff and large-scale irregularities are taking place in the process.

Students complained that the fresh orders are being issued on older dates with the intention of extending the benefit of regularisation of contract employees.

Taking serious view of these complaints, the Telangana government has directed all the departments not to issue fresh appointment orders to contract staff until further orders by the government.

The OU students complained that the university had hurriedly issued appointment orders to nearly 100 non-teaching staff from July 14.

They questioned the rationale behind issuing such orders on July 14, which was the last working day of the OU vice-chancellor Professor S. Satyanarayana, who retired on July 14.

They pointed out that rules do not permit a VC to make any fresh app-ointments during the last six months of his/her tenure and demanded an inquiry into what prompted the University administration to start issuing appointment letters to contract staff from July 14.

They alleged large-scale irregularities in the selection process and that huge money chan-ged hands in the entire process.

Students brought to the notice of the government that many such irregularities are going unnoticed in various departments ever since the TRS government had announ-ced its decision of regularising the contract staff.
They complained that the officials in connivance with some brokers are making fresh appointment of contract staff with older dates and minting money out of this process.
