PM Narendra Modi offers 2 SB a/c, experts feel staff key

Banker-customer relation is also equally important according to experts
Hyderabad: Despite the government’s efforts to take banking to unbanked areas, banking experts feel that the success of financial inclusion would hinge on the banker-customer relations.“A banker’s approach towards its customers is the deciding factor in achieving financial inclusion of people living in remote areas,” said K. Sandhya Rani, the postmaster general (business development and technology), Andhra Pradesh Circle.
India Post, which has the farthest reach among other financial institutions in the country, is very popular among the rural households. Ms Rani says, “It is because of the homely-relation that post masters develop with their customers. Such a relation is possible because postmasters stay at a place for years and develop a good rapport with villagers. However, this is lacking in the banking system, where employees often transferred and hence couldn’t create a relationship with their customers.”
On Thursday, finance minister Arun Jaitley said that the government plans to create two free bank accounts for every unbanked household. The scheme will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Mr A Mohan Reddy, the MD of Bhavana Rishi Co-operative Urban Bank, said that employees attitude towards their customers has changed over the years.
