Notice is sent in a case of sexual assault of a Dalit teenage girl in Mathura

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh police in a case of sexual assault in Mathura.

"The NHRC has taken suo moto cognizance of a media report that a Dalit teenage girl was allegedly gang raped by six youths in Pingri village of Mathura District on July 19. "Reportedly, she had gone to a temple to attend an overnight religious event. When she went to relieve herself at a nearby field, she was abducted and sexually assaulted," the Commission said in a statement.

The contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim, observed the Commission.

Notices has been issued to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Mathura and a report in the matter has been sought within two weeks.
