Water in open cast mines affects coal production

Officials of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited were unable to unearth coal due to water stranding in the mines

Khammam: Incessant rain over the last 48 hours in Khammam district has affected coal production in the open cast mines at Yellandu, Manuguru and Kothagudem.

Approximately, coal production of one lakh tonne was affected due to the rain.

Officials of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited were unable to unearth coal from open cast mines due to water stranding in the mines.

The SCCL, with its operations spanning across four districts including Khammam, has suffered production losses for the first time in the current rainy season owing to disruption of production in OCPs.

SCCL used to produce 60,000 tons of coal per day from the open cast mines at Yellandu, Manuguru and Kothagudem.

Rain water accumulated in three open cast mines in Kothagudem and in Prakasam Khani OC-II and IV mines in Manugur.

Kothagudem received 54.2 mm rainfall, Yellandu received 49.6 mm rainfall and Manuguru received 46.44 mm rainfall on Monday.
