Vibgyor reopens today after parents and police check security

Parents had suggested to the management to install 127 CCTV cameras across the school

Bengaluru: Vibgyor High, where a six-year-old child was allegedly raped by a skating instructor on July 2, is reopening on Monday. On Sunday, nearly a hundred parents, accompanied by officials from the education and police departments, visited the school premises and checked the security arrangements made by the school management.

The parents, who have formed an action committee, had suggested to the management to install 127 CCTV cameras across the school to avoid such incidents again. During the inspection, the team found that 76 CCTV cameras have been set up, while DCP (South-East), Dr T.D. Pawar said that the school management had promised to install the rest of the cameras by late evening on Sunday.

The action committee had also suggested that the height of compound walls had to be increased, and the work was going on, said Ms Devyani Bagchi Choudhry, a member of the committee.The parents met the principal, vice-principal and school director Kavita Sahay on Sunday noon. One of the parents who attended the meeting said, “I will send my son to the school tomorrow. The school has met our demands. They have installed additional CCTV cameras besides, the background verification has been done on the school staff.”

South Block Education Officer Ramesh said, “The parents seemed satisfied with the upgraded security measures taken by the school management. The school requested the parents to send their wards to the school tomorrow.” The parents’ task force committee, consisting of five to six members, will also be present in the school on Monday.
