K Chandrasekhar Rao orders CBI probe into Housing scam

Mr Rao held a review meeting with officials of housing department at Secretariat

Hyderabad: Telangana State Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday ordered a CID inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of Housing Scheme for poor during the Congress regime between 2009 and 2014.

He said the Congress governments had claimed that nearly 22.40 lakh Indiramma houses were constructed for poor between 2006 and 2014 but there was no clarity over the actual number of houses built so far. Mr Rao directed the CBI to inquire how many houses were actually built during this period.

Mr Rao reminded that the then Congress governments alone suspended 490 officials for irregularities in Housing Scheme and dismissed another 285 officials for the same. Some officials are still in jail while some others secured bail, he said.

Mr Rao said these statistics give scope for suspicion over the irregularities in Housing Scheme and the CID inquiry will enable all to know the truth.

Mr Rao on Saturday held a review meeting with the officials of housing department at Secretariat.

He said officials will visit all the 83.59 lakh houses that were built as mentioned in the records to find whether they actually exist.
