Woman kidnaps newborn from KLE Hospital

Male baby was taken away in the presence of several patients and their relatives

Belgaum: A newborn baby was kidnapped by an unidentified woman from the labour room of KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre in Belgaum on Wednesday morning even as her movements were captured in the CCTV cameras at various points at the hospital.

A woman from Majgaon, near Belgaum, gave birth to twins (a male and female) late on Tuesday night. The male baby was taken away by the woman in the presence of several patients and their relatives.

Hospital sources said that the mother was kept in the labour room at Sagar Wards in the hospital after the delivery.

The unidentified woman entered the hospital wearing a scarf around her neck at 7.30 am and gained entry into Sagar Ward without any difficulty. She entered the labour room as she seemed to know that the security staff at the hospital would change shift early every morning. She met the mother of twins and took the male child saying she will get the child back after a vaccination.

The visuals of the woman from the time she entered the hospital and left with the child have been recorded in the CCTV cameras. She is seen covering the child in the shawl that she was wearing around her neck. The police have obtained all the details including the CCTV clippings from the hospital and are on the hunt for the kidnapper.
