NHRC sends notice to AP govt over thrashing of visually impaired kids in school

‘The contents of the news report raise a serious violation of human rights of children’

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice on Tuesday to Andhra Pradesh government over the issue of corporal punishment meted out to three visually impaired students in Kakinada.

The notice has been sent to the Chief Secretary, Government of AP and District Magistrate, Kakinada and a report in this matter has been sought by the Commission within four weeks.

"The Commission has taken suo moto cognizance of a media report that three visually impaired children, below 10 years of age, were mercilessly caned by the coordinator and Principal of a residential school for blinds in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh," the Commission said.

"The contents of the news report raise a serious violation of human rights of children who became victim of corporal punishment," the Commission observed.
