Birla promises support to Telangana in industrialisation

Mr Birla recalled his long association with Hyderabad and hinted at expansion of industries in Telangana

Hyderabad: C.K. Birla, the noted industrialist and group’s chairman, promised all support to the TRS government in terms of industrialisation, especially investment in the cement industry and medicare.

Mr Birla, who heads, a conglomerate operating across home and building products, automotive and technology, healthcare and education, met Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and discussed about expansion of cement units, investment in medicare and other areas.
Mr Birla was accompanied by Company Managing Director, Mr Deepak Ketra.

Mr Birla recalled his association with Hyderabad and hinted at expansion of cement factories, besides investment in medicare in Telangana and sought the support of the state.

Requesting Mr Birla to invest in Telangana, the Chief Minister informed him that the government would be industry friendly and would soon come out with a new industrial policy, which would include a hassle free single window system to ensure quick and corruption free clearances in various departments at the shortest possible time of two weeks to three weeks.

The government has created a land bank of 2.5 lakh acres in Telangana for allotment to new investors, which would be under the control of the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation.

A government spokesman said Mr Birla was impressed by Telangana government’s new initiative to attract investments and industries to the state.
Chief Secretary, Mr Rajiv Sharma, Principal Secretary in the CMO, Mr Narsing Rao, Industries Secretary, Mr Pradeep Chandra, CM’s Additional Secretary, and Ms Smitha Sabarhwal have been asked to follow up with the company for the proposed initiatives in the state.

Chairman of AVTEC, HIL, National Engine-ering Industries, Neo-sym, Cement, Orient, Birla Soft, GMMCO, Orient Electric, the Birla Institute of Technology, the B.M. Birla Heart Research Centre, the Calcutta Medical Research Institute, Modern High School for Girls, and the Rukmani Birla Modern High School, among others were represented.
