Rahul Dravid set to become famous bell ringer at Lord's

The tradition was introduced by Keith Bradshaw

Mumbai: Wednesday was a double delight day for Rahul Dravid. In London, the former India captain was elected as the newest 47th member of Laureus World Sports Academy in the morning and in the afternoon he was chosen to ring the bell on day one of the England v India Test match at Lord's commencing Thursday.

"There is no committee that decides the bell ringer, it is decided by the Chief Executive (Derek Brewer) and a few members of staff", Chris Smith, the Media & Communications official, speaking over telephone from Lord's, said.

The tradition was introduced by Keith Bradshaw, the former CEO (now settled in Australia) , some years ago.

"They only ring the bell at the start of the morning session and not the afternoon or evening session", he added.

India's Sunil Gavaskar, late Tiger Pataudi and Dilip Vengasarkar have had this opportunity at Lord's in the past.
