Pakistan searches for Ved Pratap Vaidiki's friend

Mr Vaidik’s actual agenda for meeting Saeed is still shrouded in mystery

New Delhi: Baba Ramdev aide Ved Pratap Vaidiki had claimed that he had met Saeed through “another Pakistani journalist”. When asked, Mr Shirazi said, “Even we are looking for that mysterious journalist who organised the meet.”

Mr Shirazi said that in Pakistan “there is no restriction on Saeed’s movements, and he moves quite freely”. But he added while “it is not difficult for Pakistani journalists to meet Saeed, who also recently hosted a reception for them”, he felt that “for outsiders it’s not that easy”.

While Mr Vaidik’s actual agenda for meeting Saeed is still shrouded in mystery, some intelligence officials suspect it could possibly have been an attempt by the Indian government to establish contact with Saeed on a Track-2 basis. Sources revealed that not only was Mr Vaidik close to top saffron leaders, he was also on “good terms” with some senior Congress leaders. During the UPA government too he had reportedly held talks with senior Kashmiri separatist leaders. Mr Vaidik is also understood to be “close” to national security adviser Ajit Doval as well as to the principal secretary to the PM, Mr Nripendra Misra.
