Crackdown on fake Wakf leases

Wakf Board had submitted a report to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao

Hyderabad: The TRS government plans to crack down on encroachments, illegal leases and sale of wakf properties across the state after undertaking a detailed survey.

Though minorities welfare commissioner Shaik Mohammed Iqbal, who had held the post of special officer, Wakf Board, had submitted a report to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, on the rot that has set in the Wakf Board and illegal occupation of Wakf properties in the state, the government wants a proper survey report with documentary evidence to avoid legal hassles.

Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahamood Ali told this correspondent that the government would go for a detailed survey of Wakf lands before initiating action.

“We have data but it’s incomplete. We will have a detailed survey in every district before initiating action,” the deputy Chief Minister said.

The Wakf Board has staked claim to 1,600 acre of land given to Lanco Hills, MR Properties among others, some of which are locked in legal battle.

The Board won a case in the High Court and the government had appealed to the Supreme Court.
